Gone Racing

Today, my son Adam decided that the guys needed a day out. More to the point he decided that it was time that we went go-kart racing. Well, I’m game for almost anything and this sounded like it could be a lot of fun.

My son Adam, flanked on the left by my grandson Jarrett; and, on the right by my grandson, Mikey. It was the three of them against this old man for bragging rights in the world of go-kart racing.

It was a bit of ride to get to the track but in due time we had arrived.

Walking into the lobby I began thinking to myself This looks really interesting.

This was a diagram of the track we would be racing on today.

The actual track.

The karts. They are electric powered and can reach a top speed in the vicinity of 50 mph.

Remember how I was going to teach them a thing or two about racing? Let me just say, driving one of these go-karts is intense. It is not for the faint of heart. Nor, for someone whose knees don’t quite bend as they are supposed to and whose back doesn’t take kindly into folding one’s body in the middle just to get seated in one of these contraptions. Bottom line, I lasted 28 laps then I threw in the towel and decided I would be the official photographer for the day.

Gentleman, start your engines!

Leaving the pits and entering the track. In order, Adam, Jarrett and finally Mikey.

Mikey and Jarrett coming hot into turn one.

Adam is right behind them and would in fact lap them by the next turn.

It was a fun day for one and all.

So that is how we spent today on The Road of Retirement. Tonight, I’m sitting here with an ice bag on my one knee, and a heating pad on my back! Me thinks my age just might be catching up to me tonight. But never mind the aches and pains I wouldn’t trade this day for any other. I had an absolutely wonderful time with my son and grandson’s and that to me is a small price to pay for what I’m feeling tonight. What a wonderful life we lead. Thank you Lord for this fantastic day you gave me.

  2. This post has me smiling! What a fun time. It sounds like your son is so very glad to spend time with you – cooking meals and going to the races! You lasted 28 more laps than I would have. You are living life to the fullest! Enjoy your day today!
